Cost of attendance (COA)

For the 2017-18 academic year (fall 2017 and spring 2018)

Determining your cost of attendance

We base our financial aid awards (scholarships, grants, work-study and loans) on cost-of-attendance estimates or “budgets.”

Financial aid awards are based on the cost of attendance for an academic year (defined as two semesters, fall and spring) as determined by:

  • the student's housing status,
  • enrollment status,
  • FAFSA dependency status,
  • and program of enrollment (e.g., Main Campus vs. our College of Applied Science and Technology, etc.).

Three scenarios: The tables below show estimated and average costs for full-time undergraduate students enrolled on the Main Campus under three housing options:

  • On-campus (arranged through Residence Life);
  • Dependent commuter (living with parents);
  • Off-campus (dependent students in non-UA apartments or independent students)

Actual expenses will vary due to housing choice and other factors. The total amount of financial aid offered may be more than what you need to pay your bill.

Worksheet: To help you determine your expenses and how much financial aid you will need, we have created financing worksheets for you.

** The University offers a range of housing and dining options. The room and board charges are estimated using mid-range costs for housing and the 19-meal-per-week meal plan (board). The room and board charges you select will change your total cost of attendance. (See residence hall rates.)
