OFFICE OF INCLUSION AND EQUITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
As our nation celebrates LGBTQ Pride Month to recognize and honor the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community, we at The University of Akron champion our students, faculty, staff and community members in support of each other.
My great grandmother was born on February 11, 1865, two years and 41 days after the Emancipation Proclamation decreed that, “All persons held as slaves shall be free.”

Community forums: An invitation to join the dialogue
The Office of Inclusion and Equity is an important point of entry for the discussion of issues of discrimination and is the campus core for promoting an inclusive environment where embracing difference is the rule rather than the exception.
We can and must make a difference
The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis was senseless and utterly heartbreaking. We, in our local communities and across the nation, must do better. Our very survival as a democratic society depends on our willingness to work toward, and achieve, equality for all.
The University of Akron affirms the importance and value of diversity within the student body, and among our faculty, staff, administration and governing Board of Trustees. Our university values and respects the humanity of every individual from every background, and we embrace the diversity that defines UA and has so profoundly enriched our community.

International Women's Day
The goal of the Office of Inclusion and Equity is to increase the impact of UA’s inclusive excellence commitment, leading to wider understanding and greater success for all students.
The office reports directly to the president. Now consolidated within the office are a number of units, programs and events that represent a spectrum of diversity. They continue to be offered to directly contribute to matriculation, persistence and graduation from the University.
